Numberplate recognition

Drive in with a registered numberplate.

Let customers and staff use their registered numberplate at the vehicle gate. Bearbox checks their permission before opening it.

A customer arrives with a van full of boxes. Automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) gives that vehicle a way through the gate, keeping the journey to the unloading area simple.

From the gate to the unloading area

A compatible ANPR camera reads the approaching numberplate. Bearbox checks the vehicle’s gate permission and opens the connected entrance when access is allowed. The numberplate, time and entrance are recorded for later review.

  1. Register the vehicle

Add the customer’s or staff member’s numberplate and keep it current.

  2. Check the permission

Bearbox checks whether the recognised vehicle can use that gate at that time.

  3. Open the vehicle entrance

The gate opens for the vehicle. Customers use their normal door and unit controls for the rest of the visit.

Keep vehicle access within your site rules

Give each vehicle access to the gates and hours it needs. A customer’s van and a contractor’s vehicle may need different permissions. Where your rental connector supports vehicle details, keep the authorised list with the customer’s rental records.

Check the camera and the approach

Recognition depends on a compatible camera and a clear view of the numberplate. We’ll review the camera model, gate controls, lighting and where vehicles approach or stop. That establishes what equipment can stay and what needs to change.

A hire van still needs a way in

Customers sometimes arrive in a different vehicle, and cameras cannot read every plate. Offer keypad or phone access as a backup. Building doors, pedestrian entrances and units keep their own access controls.

Questions about numberplate recognition?

Practical answers for planning your site.

Can we use our existing camera and gate?

Compatible equipment can be retained where suitable. Share the camera model, gate controls and entrance layout with us. We will review recognition support and the connection to Bearbox before recommending equipment for the site.

What if a customer arrives in a different vehicle?

Plan a backup access method for customers using a hire van or an unregistered vehicle. A keypad or configured phone access can provide an alternative. Keep vehicle details current when a customer changes their usual vehicle.

Does numberplate recognition cover building and unit access?

Numberplate recognition serves the vehicle entrance. Building doors, pedestrian gates and units use the access controls you configure for those places. Combine ANPR with keypad, QR or phone access and optional unit locks to suit the customer journey.
